It’s been a little bit of an awkward time for Paladin Risk Management Services thanks to an unfortunate mix up between my outstanding and upstanding company Paladin Risk Management Services and another company called Paladin Group which has recently come under fire for allegedly controversial business at Manus Island. I’m not going to comment further on that company because plenty of people have vented their anger and disgust at what has been alleged in various media reports. However, the unfortunate mix up has caused some people (including a politician) to slam me publicly, which has been extremely distressing.
So firstly, I would like to thank all my clients, valued colleagues in the industry and social followers who have been smart enough to know the difference and have not questioned me or my company.
But I’d like to use this extraordinary episode as an example of the risk people take by just not doing the basics and checking the facts. Whether you are acting as an individual or a company, commenting on any platform comes with responsibility to get it right:
- First, do your research. Apart from Paladin Risk Management Services and Paladin Group, there is also a resources company and a sports clothing manufacturer with the same name. Each of these companies do different things – and each has a website that clearly highlights what those are. If you have resources at your disposal to research – use them
- Second – and in the same vain – don’t rush to be first. It may seem that you can score points for your cause, but it is embarrassing when you are required to withdraw the post and apologise.
- Third, consider the reputation damage you could be doing to the individual and/or organisation. Legal action and damages could follow.
In the case of the abusive post by the politician frankly it was inexcusable given the resources politicians have with staff to check and double-check the facts.
As some have suggested, I have no intention whatsoever of changing the name of my company. I have worked extremely hard to be recognised as a brand and a company that represents quality, integrity and amazing outcomes for clients.
The association that my company has had with the Paladin Group has been caused purely and simply by a sheer lack of effort on the part of those wishing to make comment about their activities (mostly for political point scoring). This has led me to create my own #:
